Message from The Estate of Michael Jackson.
We are saddened at the prospect of the sale of Neverland which, under the agreement negotiated during Michael's lifetime, Colony has the right to sell. The Estate will maintain Michael's family home in Encino, including its iconic recording studio there. We continue to build upon Michael's legacy as an artistic genius and humanitarian through his music and new projects such as the Michael Jackson ONE show in Las Vegas.
We hope and trust that any new owners of Neverland will respect the historical importance and special nature of this wonderful property. Michael's memory lives on in the hearts of his fans worldwide.
It is also important to the Estate that Michael's fans understand that although the Estate has no right to stop or obstruct the sale, The Estate did explore a number of potential options for Neverland with Colony but zoning, financial and land use restrictions limited the alternatives and ultimately Colony made the decision to sell.

A few things. By the time he returned to the U.S., I think Michael outgrew Neverland and also, as he said, it became tainted as a homestead for him and his family. Still, he may have kept it for other uses, which I understand that he also said. And, certainly his children have precious memories of it. But, also, he said he didn't want to go back. The Jackson family did the right thing by not burying him there.
Finally, it may be that someone will step up and purchase it and do something wonderful with it within the zoning laws, which I understand are for agriculture uses. I hate to see it go to commercial use. But, often, when there is this kind of disruption, a diaspora, if you will, the legacy and its influence is spread worldwide even further. That may be the best thing that could happen
